Chandogyopanishad

The Chandogyopanishad is one of the oldest Upanishads like Brihadaranyakopanishad. Belonging to Samaveda, this upanishad is actually the extension of Chandogya Brahmana consisting of ten chapters. The last eight chapters of this Brahmana constitute this Upanishad. These eight chapters contain 630 passages in prose. The Upanishads generally deal with the questions regarding the origin of the world, the search for truth and the way to realization of Ultimate Reality. The Chandogyopanishad also presents the metaphysical speculations of the seers of that age. The treatise starts with the explanation of the mystic syllable Om. It also contains methods of meditation on this symbol, meditation on Sama, the Madhuvidya and the principle of rebirth.
